FD60

Heat Pump or Gas Dehydrator

Energy-Efficient Tray Dryer for Mid-Sized Production

When processing volume outgrows smaller cabinet systems, operations require a dedicated, commercial-scale food dehydrator that perfectly balances increased throughput with precise thermal control. The FD60 Heat Pump Dehydrator is designed for food processors who need greater capacity completely backed by Nyle's comprehensive after-sale service, remote diagnostic partnership, and expert application training to maximize your production.

Capable of processing up to 3,600 pounds of wet product per batch while removing up to 60 pounds of moisture per hour, the FD60 combines industry-leading energy efficiency with controllable temperature ranges up to 180°F. It is our most frequently utilized commercial-scale system, widely adopted by healthy ready-to-eat meal manufacturers, confectionery brands, and processors specializing in high-margin jerky, pet treats, single-ingredient snacks, fruits, and berries.

Engineered to meet rigorous food safety and quality assurance standards, the FD60 delivers the consistent, repeatable results required to protect your margins.

Mid-Sized Production Dehydration, Built for Higher Thermal Loads

When your product line demands faster cycle times or higher processing temperatures than a heat pump system can deliver, the FD60 is also available in an indirect-fired gas configuration, purpose-built for high-moisture products and demanding thermal loads. The FD60 Gas-Fired Dehydrator is designed for food processors who need greater capacity, higher heat, and faster throughput, completely backed by Nyle's comprehensive after-sales service, remote diagnostic partnership, and expert application training to maximize your production.

Capable of processing up to 3,600 pounds of wet product per batch while removing up to 60 pounds of moisture per hour, the FD60 gas-fired unit reaches processing temperatures up to 220°F (104°C), well above what's achievable with heat pump technology alone. That higher thermal ceiling means shorter cycle times on tougher, high-moisture loads, without sacrificing the consistent, repeatable results your quality assurance program requires. It's our most frequently utilized commercial-scale platform, widely adopted by healthy ready-to-eat meal manufacturers, confectionery brands, and processors specializing in high-margin jerky, pet treats, single-ingredient snacks, fruits, and berries.

The indirect-fired burner keeps combustion gases fully isolated from the product airstream, so you get the speed and intensity of gas heat without compromising food safety or product quality. Engineered to meet rigorous food safety and quality assurance standards, the FD60 gas-fired configuration delivers dependable, high-volume output for operations where cycle time and thermal headroom matter most.

Need Lower Operating Costs?
For processors prioritizing energy efficiency over peak temperature, our heat pump configuration delivers industry-leading efficiency with controllable temperatures up to 180°F.

Consistent Drying Means Better Yields
Inconsistent drying can lead to lost yield, rejected product, and unnecessary rework. The FD60 maintains precise control of temperature, humidity, and airflow throughout the drying cycle, helping ensure uniform moisture removal across all 18 racks for consistent product quality from the first tray to the last.
Lower Energy Costs on Every Batch
Energy is one of the largest operating costs in commercial dehydration. The FD60's closed-loop heat pump technology captures and reuses heat from the drying process, removing up to 60 pounds of moisture per hour while using significantly less energy than conventional drying systems. Lower utility costs and reduced waste help improve profitability on every batch.
Designed for Easy Operation and Maximum Uptime
The FD60's intuitive controls make it easy for operators to run consistent drying cycles with minimal training. Behind every system is Nyle's factory service team, providing installation support, operator training, preventative maintenance, and responsive technical assistance to keep your production running and your investment delivering results.
Comprehensive Data Logging & Process Validation
For facilities requiring strict safety compliance, the system continuously graphs and records drying charts. This data logging allows quality assurance teams to verify that critical regulatory parameters and target relative humidity curves have been successfully achieved and maintained for every single batch.

*Load capacity is calculated based on standard rack dimensions of 26” x 20 3/8” x 69 1/2” with 3” layer spacing and 20 trays per rack. Each tray holds an estimate of 5 - 10 lbs of wet product.

The FD60 is Nyle's larger heat pump dehydrator, with 18 racks and 360 trays versus the FD24's 8 racks and 160 trays. Water removal capacity scales proportionally, 60 pounds per hour compared to 24, and the chamber provides 1,170 square feet of total drying space. The FD60 also uses three 24-inch circulating fans versus two on the FD24.

The FD60's scheduler allows operators to program up to 10 sequential drying steps, each with its own temperature setpoint, humidity target, fan speed, and logic for when to advance. Steps can be set to advance based on elapsed time, a target chamber temperature, a target relative humidity level, or a Validation condition, where the system holds both temperature and RH at defined levels for a set duration before moving to the next step. Schedules can be saved by name to an SD card and reloaded for repeat runs.

Yes. The FD60 supports remote monitoring and control via smartphone, tablet, or computer. The system's onboard PLC is accessible through a standard web browser on your local network, where you can view live probe readings, check cycle status, and access logged data, all without removing the SD card from the unit. Minute-by-minute temperature and humidity data from every cycle is stored and available for review.

Heat pump dehydrators recycle energy rather than vent it. Instead of continuously exhausting heated air to the outside, the FD60 passes moist chamber air over a cold evaporator coil, condenses the moisture out, reheats the now-dry air, and recirculates it back through the product. This closed-loop process recovers and reuses the majority of the heat energy in the system, resulting in significantly lower operating costs compared to convection or direct gas-fired dryers running equivalent loads.

The FD60's maintenance routine is straightforward. Weekly tasks include checking air inlet filters; dirty filters reduce evaporator airflow and directly hurt moisture removal performance, and visually inspecting chamber seals. Monthly inspections cover the blower assembly, belts, and electrical panel. Every four months, the blower and fan assemblies should be lubricated with NSF-compliant food-grade grease. Periodically cleaning the evaporator and condenser coils with an FDA-approved coil cleaner keeps heat transfer efficient and water removal rates on target.
