Meet the FD24: A Compact Heat Pump Dehydrator Built for Serious Production

Product Highlights

If your operation has outgrown a wall of countertop dryers but you don’t yet have the volume or the floor space to justify a tunnel system, you’ve probably felt stuck. The FD24 from Nyle Dehydrators is built for exactly that gap: a commercial-grade heat pump dehydrator engineered for businesses that need real throughput in a footprint that still fits inside a typical processing room.

What the FD24 actually is

The FD24 is a batch dehydrator that pairs an insulated drying chamber with Nyle’s DH24 heat pump unit. Rather than venting hot, moist air outside (and paying to heat fresh replacement air in its place), the system uses a closed refrigeration cycle to pull moisture out of the air, drain it away as condensate, and recycle the recovered heat back into the chamber. The result is precise, repeatable drying without the energy bill of a conventional gas or electric dryer.

A few of the headline numbers:

  • Water removal rate: up to 24 lbs of water per hour (rated at ~115°F dry bulb, 70% RH)
  • Capacity: 8 racks, 160 trays, 800–1,600 lbs of wet product per batch
  • Drying temperature range: 80°–160°F, with an auxiliary “kill temp” up to 180°F
  • Loading space: 8’2″ D × 5’2″ L × 6’0″ H
  • Total footprint: 15’6″ D × 5’10” L × 9’5″ H
  • Power options: 480V three-phase 50 Hz or 480V three-phase 60 Hz

In other words, you’re getting a unit that can comfortably swallow a half-ton to nearly a full ton of wet product per cycle, hold it within a few degrees of your target, and do it all inside a room only a little bigger than a standard parking space.

Who it’s built for

The FD24 is positioned for commercial producers who need reliability and food-safety-grade construction without stepping all the way up to industrial-scale equipment. Common fits include:

  • Fruit and vegetable processors drying apples, mangoes, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and similar items
  • Pet treat manufacturers running batches of jerky, sweet potato chews, or freeze-alternative products
  • Meat snack producers making jerky and biltong, where the auxiliary heater reaches kill-step temperatures
  • Specialty and nutraceutical operations drying botanicals, mushrooms, and similar high-margin SKUs

The construction reflects the audience. The interior is stainless steel, the exterior is painted galvanized, and the unit is NSF-listed and built in the USA with U.S. and imported parts. All seals are designed to be closed with NSF-approved gaskets or NSF-approved silicone caulking, which matters the moment an auditor walks through your door.

The control system you’d actually want to use

A dehydrator is only as good as the operator’s ability to dial it in, and this is where the FD24 separates itself from older-style commercial dryers. The unit ships with an advanced touch-screen controller that lets you build schedules of up to ten steps, each one driven by time, temperature, relative humidity, or a cool-down condition. You can save schedules to an SD card, load them back for the next run, and let the controller log temperature and RH every minute throughout the cycle for traceability.

Just as importantly, the FD24 includes remote monitoring capability. You can check on a running batch from a phone, tablet, or laptop, which means a process supervisor doesn’t have to be standing at the chamber door at 2 a.m. to know that step 4 transitioned cleanly into step 5.

Why heat pump drying, and why now

Conventional dryers create heat and throw the moisture-laden exhaust outside. A heat pump dehydrator like the FD24 captures the energy that would otherwise be wasted and uses it to keep the chamber at the setpoint. That translates into lower operating costs per pound of finished product, and it lets the system operate in a comfortably enclosed indoor space, no exhaust stack, no makeup air handler, no fight with the HVAC.

For a growing food, pet, or specialty producer, that combination of precision control, food-grade construction, real batch capacity, and energy-efficient operation in a footprint you can actually fit is exactly what makes the FD24 worth a longer look.
