This October, Thom Tardif and I attended the Maine Stay 2024 Annual Workshop hosted by Sutherland Weston.
Like most seminars, conferences, or workshops, the event began with a speaker – The first speaker at the Maine Stay 2024 conference did not disappoint
Pete Roberts, founder of Origin USA, delivered an exceptional talk on hard work, grit, failure, success, vision, and gratitude. Hearing Pete’s story was a powerful reminder that, as humans, we share many of the same struggles, fears, and goals for our businesses—to be successful, stay true to our mission, and keep moving toward our vision.
The rest of the morning was filled with various breakout sessions. I attended the workshop “Who Are You? Find and Leverage Your Personal Brand for Business Growth.” Thom chose to attend “I Did the Free Stuff First: Discussing Shoestring Budget Marketing Wins.”
Other breakout sessions included:
At the conference, we had these cool breakout sessions where we could pick workshops relevant to our jobs. Since the groups were smaller, we could chat directly with the speakers and have great conversations. Even though the sessions were a bit short, they were jam-packed with useful information that sparked many new ideas and ways of thinking.
Between the breakout sessions, the main stage featured key speakers offering deeper discussions on business, marketing, leadership, AI, and personal reflection.
All the speakers stood out and delivered valuable takeaways. One speaker, in particular, deserves special mention: Dr. TJ Holloway, Senior Partner at The Holloway Group. His talk, The Forgotten Leader: Self-Leadership, was a standout topic. Often overlooked in discussions about leadership is how we lead ourselves. His speech opened our eyes to the reality of our thoughts, actions, and deepest desires and what we need to do when we find ourselves going down the rabbit hole. I found his talk so impactful that I plan to write a separate blog post on this topic.
Finally, I want to extend a special thank you to Elizabeth Sutherland and Cary Weston from Sutherland Weston for organizing another successful Maine Stay Conference. Your team, the venue, and the speakers all did an exceptional job. Thom and I look forward to next year’s Maine Stay 2025 Conference.
